Hugh's 1948 Anglia with a Chevrolet 350 V8
(as recorded by Dan Masters)
I have enclosed a shot of my 1948 Anglia. It is power by a 305 Chevy with a
th350 trans. The front suspension is a narrowed Opel GT and the rear end
is a narrowed Ford 8." I have about 27K on the car since built and it is
driven rain shine or snow. The interior is still in the works but I drive
it for me not anyone else. I get 18 plus mpg on the road and about 15 mpg
in town. It was only a shell of a body when purchased and the frame and suspension
fabricated. Three years and the road and it is still a ton of fun to drive
and very well mannered.
The panel truck is all steel, even the hood scoop,
completely finished inside & out. It has a Dodge Neon front end & a
Chrysler 8 3/4 rear end. I presently have a 3.89 (or near) rear end
gears. When it had a low ratio 4 rear end it would pull a wheelie in
1st & 2nd gears. Narrowed rear, tubbed, mostly original hardware
inside & out. Has a heater, 5 disc cd player, and I will be adding air
conditioning after the 1st of the year (too hot to drive in summer
daytime down here in New Orleans). Drives like the family car cruising
at 80 mph down the interstate. Its very fast, (yes, I can make use of
the wheelie bars) & easy to drive. It has a 350 turbo & 350 chevy ci
engine.
It weighs 2560 pounds. I just added yellow neon under the hood for effects at Cruise Nites. It has purple neon at the rear. The Thames Van still has an operative, vacuum powered windshield wiper system, that's original equipment on it!!
