Engine: | 1978 Rover 3.5L from a Rover SD1. Offenhauser intake manifold, Holley 4-bbl
465cfm carburetor, remote oil filter. |
Transmission: | 1978 Borg-Warner BW65 3-speed automatic transmission (from the Rover
SD1 sedan). Ford Escort gear selector. Triumph transmission cooler.
Land Rover driveshaft, with rear end modified to mate to Ford axle. |
Cooling: | MGB-V8 radiator. Twin electric fans (with motors from Suzuki H4). |
Exhaust: | block hugger headers. |
Brakes: | MGB V8 front rotors. Front calipers made from Triumph inners and MGB outers.
(Servo and backplate are standard.) |
Wheels/Tires: | 165/14 stranded wire spokes. |
Suspension: | 3/4" front sway bar. Spax front shocks. Bilstein telescopic rear shocks. |
Rear axle: | narrowed Ford 8" (3.08:1) with MGB half shafts and brakes fitted. |
Instruments: | Rover SD1 speedo and tachometer modified to fit in original MGB cases.
(This meant that a Rover speedometer drive was also used.) |
Completed: | July 1998, at a cost of about $3000 (Australian). |
Comments: | if I did it again, I'd use RV8 headers. |
